August 5 visits to Brampton Bryan Hall  by kind invitation of Mr and Mrs Edward Harley and and Gatley Park by kind invitation of Mr and Mrs Philip Dunne.  Meet at Gatley Park 10.30 am. Leinthall Earls.
Both properties are in Herefordshire.
We will travel to Gatley to meet at half past ten for a cup of coffee prior to a walk around this very special garden. Gatley was built in the Jacobean style in the 1630s and has been lived in by the Dunne family since the late 17th century.  It is constructed of mellow brick and is well sited in a wooded valley in the hills  near Aymestrey.
After Gatley we shall go to the Riverside Inn at Aymestrey for lunch.

In the afternoon we shall visit Brampton Bryan Hall. The existing house was built in the 1660s and was then remodelled in 1740.  It adjoins the Castle and, according to Pevsner, passed to the Harleys in 1309. The family has lived there ever since. There are fascinating stories about the Civil War including the heroic defence of the castle by Brilliana Harley and we will be given a tour of the gardens and told something of it’s history by either Victoria or Edward Harley before having tea in the Victorian Dairy.
